Memory Care

As the frequency in cases of dementia continues to increase, Briarfield is raising the bar for the standard of care for residents diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease and other memory disorders. Our dedicated, secure memory care units provide the safety, comfort and programming needed to meet the needs of these special cases.

Life at Briarfield

Our memory care units are designed and constructed to create a relaxing and engaging environment for our residents.

We work with expert designers who research and select color combinations and patterns that help to soothe our residents, reduce anxiety and bring a sense of serenity and calmness. Living spaces, like the resident rooms and the common area, are built larger than typical assisted living communities, which helps to promote exercise and gives memory care residents enough space to be interactive and engage as much as possible.

Safety is paramount, and Briarfield goes above and beyond to ensure the security of all residents, especially those in our memory care program. We have installed the latest monitoring systems, call systems, cameras and security systems, so you can have the peace of mind in knowing your loved one is always looked after.

Memory disorders start with cognition and short-term memory loss, but can eventually affect a person’s ability to walk, talk and eat. Keeping residents engaged and active is central to Briarfield’s memory care programming. We believe that the more we keep our residents busy and active, the longer they will live and the happier they will be.

Our care coordinators develop programs that help residents cognitively focus by relying on their long-term memory. This helps to keep residents engaged in daily activities, improving their sociability and memory.

Music Therapy

Conducted in small group activities. Utilizes music from a particular era to help improve memory and cognitive skills, as well as lower agitation.

Reminiscence Therapy

Involves more one-on-one conversations and mild trivia to improve memory, and reduce social isolation and depression. Reviewing memories of years past helps to restore a resident’s sense of self and identity.

Residents are regularly screened to ensure they get the best services and programming when they need them.

Whether it’s a spouse trying to care for someone who needs memory care, or a child trying to care for a parent with dementia, it can be a frustrating experience. Briarfield memory care units give residents the one-on-one care that’s required to properly care for the disease. Our memory care staff receives additional  and ongoing training in dementia and Alzheimer’s disease care.
